A Little Story

Chapter 2

June 1, 2000

Let me continue our little story.  As you recall from our first chapter, our characters had met and were falling deeply in love.  A lot has happened since that chapter that I would like to tell you about.

Jeff and Wendy ran away on an exciting adventure to the mid-west.  Jeff had feelings for Wendy that he had never felt before.  He loved her so dearly and so tenderly.  He could imagine nothing better than spending the rest of his life with her.  So, on September 23, 1997, on his lunch break, he took Wendy to the Union County courthouse and they were happily married.  There was no family present, no music, no wedding gown, no tux and the only flowers were the few that he picked for her.  There was just love.  Person to person.  Soul to soul.  A promise made to each other and to God, which would last forever and into the next life.  Yes, they would be together in heaven if God allowed that type of arrangement.  So profound was that day.  A boy's life forever changed, forever improved, forever completed.

Shortly after getting married in South Dakota, they moved to Iowa.  They really loved the mid-west.  The winter snow.  Going to Four Seasons gym when it was so cold that they had to wear big jackets and run from their car as fast as they could.  Can you feel the chill?  Jogging together on the track.  Watching the snow fall through their kitchen window.  Seeing the pure white trees, especially early in the morning when they were frosted.  The spring time, when everyone was in a good mood.  Can you see the green grass?  Leaves on the trees.  Warming into summer time.  The humidity.  Tiki torches on the deck, and the outdoor barbeques.  Close your eyes, can you smell the barbeque?  The lightening bugs.  Their three ducks Vera, Chuck, and Dave who loved to drink and splash the water.  Early morning walks to get coffee.  The time when it rained and the water started pouring in their kitchen window.  How they would take walks through the neighborhood and past the neighborhood garden.  Their next door neighbor Jack.  He sometimes cleared the snow from their driveway.  Dottie.  Dolf and Mercedes, Jason and Molly, and Don and Rox.  The Halloween party.  Saturday in the park, and sitting directly behind Ted.,   Can you hear Brian Setzer?  Don's attempt to go back stage.  Golfing at the local course together after work.  How their neighbor Paul would hide the fact that he smoked.  Our cats chasing his birds.  Our bedroom in the basement.  How we could really only get three channels, so we just left in on NBC.  Popcorn and coke in bed while watching ER.  Cooking past and pizza together.  Potato Oles, can you taste them?  Bagging our own groceries at Cub Foods.  Taking motorcycle rides through Stone Park.  Can you feel the warm breeze?  Going to Morningside Assembly.  Having lunch with the Pastor.  And, especially, sharing this wonderful experience with you.  It will be a time in our life I will always cherish.  I had so much fun being alone with you in a new town.  We learned how to function together, and how to turn to each other for everything.  We did not have the security of our friends and family, and I believe we are close and stronger as a result.  Baby, I love you.  So much.

Since their first marriage, Jeff and Wendy have been married again to each other 3 times.  This is a reflection of their love for each other, and a celebration of the Union county event.  You see, when two people love each other as much as they do, they like to celebrate their marriage.  Now, you may be wondering how two people could be so in love, and how two people could be so happy together.  Well its simple, really.  They were meant for each other.  God brought them together.  And when God brings two people together, he blesses their relationship.

I will let you in on a little secret.  Jeff and Wendy truly love each other.  Their marriage is the happiest marriage that has ever been.  Affirmation, joy, encouragement, and understanding are present in their home.  Both are fulfilled and content.  Kind words are spoken.  Jeff loves her in a  way he can't describe or put into words.  The way she smiles.  The way she laughs.  The way she makes him feel.  The way she looks.  And the way she speaks to him with her eyes.  He isn't sure why God would bless him with such a wonderful woman.  But he is thankful.  You see, he loves his life with her.

Wendy, I love you.  Forever.

Love,

Jeff
